Day of the Divine Child

Dona Fatima's pinata party for the Divine Child was odd but entertaining. We learned that Nicaraguans don't just hit the pinata, they also dance for it - some of them quite well and with gusto.

The party was basically in the street, between a small house and a soap factory. It was never very clear who was in charge or what was supposed to be happening, but there were a lot of people, and four pinatas, and the kids seemed to enjoy themselves. An old woman came along at the end and handed us all nacatamales wrapped in pink plastic bags. We took them home and had them for dinner; they were delicious.
