Jinotepe, Pt 1
Today we talked our teachers into taking us to Jinotepe, a town about 40km from Granada, because the town was supposed to be celebrating its patron saint Santiago today. Every artesania stall in Granada and Masaya has locally made masks, and I wanted to see some of them in action. Plus I needed to get Elliot out of the classroom, and I was hoping the teachers would use the opportunity to teach him Spanish in a more hands on way.
I'm sorry to say that as a Spanish class it wasn't particularly useful (I felt more frustrated than ever by my inadequate Spanish, and Elliot continued to speak mostly English, which didn't help), but it was definitely an interesting cultural experience. More photos in the next post...
